PIERCING AFTERCARE

Taking care of your piercing is of the utmost importance. Daily cleaning of your new piercing will reduce the chances of an infection and aid the healing process.

Always wash your hands before handling your new piercing. You must clean your piercing at least twice a day with saline solution. Do this by applying some Neilmed Saline Spray (or similar) directly on to the piercing using a paper towel to absorb the excess. Gently clean around the piercing at the front and back and pat it dry. Make sure the area is dry as bacteria likes a moist environment. Make sure you dry your hair as well. Refrain from touching your new piercing or playing with the jewellery as this may cause an infection or unnecessary inflammation of the piercing site. Please also try and avoid getting your piercing caught, especially on clothing, hair brushes, masks, etc. We also recommend avoiding swimming pools, sea water, jacuzzis, saunas and baths for a period of 6 weeks.

Infections are very rare. The piercing will most likely be inflamed due to stress from sleeping on it, pressure, pulling or touching it. If you are unsure, please book a check-up.
More importantly, DO NOT REMOVE THE JEWELLERY OR THE INFECTION COULD MOVE TO YOUR BLOODSTREAM.

All our piercings are done with slightly longer post to accommodate for the initial swelling. We recommend you to come back for a check-up after 6-8 weeks (or otherwise specified by the piercer) so the bar can be downsized.

Ear piercings: Please avoid sleeping on your new piercing (you may use a travel pillow), make sure you change your pillowcase, avoid helmets and chunky headphones as well as answering the phone on the side of the fresh piercing.

Oral piercings: Rinse your mouth with an alcohol free mouthwash twice daily. You will also need to get a new toothbrush (or toothbrush head) as the bacteria from the old one may enter the piercing. Any white or yellow build up can gently be removed with your toothbrush. Be aware that, if any bodily fluids are passed during the healing process, it can increase a chance of diseases being passed from person to person. Please avoid alcohol and spicy food. The jewellery can be downsized after 2-4 weeks.

If the piercing gets sore or irritated, please contact us to book a check-up. In the meantime, you can apply a warm compress of either warmed-up saline solution on a gauze or chamomile tea (if you’re not allergic to it). Use the compress for 5-10 minutes in order to release anything trapped without popping the skin. Continue cleaning your piercing with saline solution throughout.
